SafeStand® Features

SafeStand® has specifically been designed to be simple to erect and move about thereby reducing the possibility of errors which can lead to costly and sometimes devastating results. To maintain the simplicity of the system, every effort has been made to keep the number of components to a minimum. The basic SafeStand® setup consists of only eight components; however added features such as the SafeStand® Staircase and the SafeStand® Gate do increase this number. Below is a photo depicting all of the features of the SafeStand® Access System. Just click on a number to get specific component details.

1. SafeStand® Lower:

This is the lower half of the main stand and is the component that bears directly onto the ground. The format of this component gives the appearance of a traditional trestle but it is far more robust and can take loads far greater than standard trestles can cope with. Each SafeStand® Unit has a Safe Working Load of 1000kgs or 1 Tonne.

2. SafeStand® Return Toeboard Bracket:

This bracket “hangs” off the main toeboard on the system and allows you to insert a short toeboard to close off the end of the run. It should always be located on the inside of the end stand of a platform run.

3. SafeStand® Gate:

This provides a hinged barrier to close the opening that is created when getting on or off the platform. It is a self-closing gate and works by gravity due to the use of an angled hinge pin. The gate always “fails safe” to the closed position. The gate can be latched into a receptor which is incorporated into the ladder bracket.

4. SafeStand® Ladder Bracket:

There are a few different variations of this bracket to suit different applications. The one shown here allows a ladder to be used in conjunction with a gate. A ladder is secured to the horizontal arm of the bracket allowing the ladder to become an integral part of the system. Wire lashings are normally used to tie the ladder to the bracket.

5. SafeStand® Staircase:

These components have been developed to coincide with the reduction in the use of ladders which is now a requirement of some of the Main Contractors on site. The staircase is used with the SafeStand® 1200 System. There are two sizes; a six step staircase to suit platform heights from 1300mm to 1700mm and a nine step staircase to suit platform heights from 1800mm to 2200mm. When not in use the staircase and the handrails fold flat for ease of storage.

6. SafeStand® Upper:

This component slots into the SafeStand® Lower and is telescopic within it allowing different platform heights to be achieved. Once the scaffold boards are positioned on this component, a raised level surface on which people can stand and materials can be loaded is created. The upper incorporates a fixed upright to which guardrails can be attached.

7. SafeStand® Guardrail:

These elements of the access system provide the barrier that prevents people from falling from the platform. They are located into receptors on each stand preset to the correct heights to ensure that the guardrail installation complies with the requirements of the Working at Height Regulations. Each Guardrail is telescopic thereby allowing greater tolerances for the installation and are available in three lengths; Standard, Short and Mini; to suit different situations.

8. SafeStand® Front Post:

This feature allows a working face barrier to be created. Because a barrier on this face is not always required the front post may at times be removed from the system so that unimpeded access to the working face can be achieved. This component contains receptors set at the correct heights to enable it to receive and support the guardrails once they are installed.

9. SafeStand® Anti-Flip Bracket:

This bracket clamps over the support member on the SafeStand® Upper and supports the short end of the scaffold boards that overhang the feet of each stand. Where the flights of scaffold boards butt up to each other, an anti-flip bracket supports each end of the boards and thereby does away with the “trap” (unsupported ends of scaffold boards) that traditionally would be found on trestles and trestle systems.

10. SafeStand® Diagonal Brace:

This component is used exclusively with the SafeStand® 1200 System and is only required when the platform height is above 1800mm.When in place this brace provides added stability to the platform. Diagonal Braces are used in pairs and are orientated in opposite directions on different faces. It is simple to install and utilises a fixed claw at one end and a swivel pin at the other end to secure it in position.
