Midland Metropolitan Hospital

Carillion was awarded the contract to build and maintain the Midland Metropolitan Hospital by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust in December 2015.

The construction programme is now underway with the hospital officially opening to patients in Spring 2019.

The state-of the-art hospital, which will have 669 acute care beds and 13 operating theatre suites, has been designed to meet the best international and national standards to make it patient focussed to support the efficient delivery of high-quality clinical services.

The new hospital will also have a number of innovative design features including:

  • a fully enclosed Winter Garden
  • car parking within the hospital building on the ground and first floors to create a secure environment for both patients and staff
  • full separation of clinical activities, public and non-clinical services.

In addition, the design and construction of the hospital will meet the highest standards of sustainability. Carillion have chosen Reussir Ltd as their preferred blockwork contractor on the project who in turn have chosen Safestand Access Systems to provide access to construct the works.

17/06/2015 – Clugston Construction have secured a 5.5m contract to construct the new Birmingham Dogs Home Scheduled to open in summer 2015.  The new Birmingham Dogs Home will be a purpose built facility in the countryside in Catherine-de-Barnes near Solihull. Safestand® Access Systems will be used to help construct the new Centre which will provide 120 re-homing kennels, a veterinary suite and large external exercise areas with an area for dog walking. It will also include administration areas, community rooms, car parking and residential accommodation for the centre manager.

The new Dogs home, which has been designed by Birmingham-based Associated Architects, puts dogs at the centre of the design process. The building will provide internal and external environments that will ensure maximum comfort and minimum stress levels for the dogs, through careful planning and orientation. Passive design principles will also ensure that energy requirements are kept to a minimum.

The state-of-the-art facility will sit sympathetically within the surrounding area and the extensive planting and landscaping will create a pleasant environment, with plenty of space for the dogs to enjoy external exercise.
