New Leeds University Library

08/05/2014 – Shepherd Construction secured the £16m job to build a new library for the University of Leeds.

Work started in August 2013 on the first city-fronting building that the University has commissioned for over 30 years. Cara Brickwork Ltd have won the blockwork package to construct the new undergraduate library and have chosen SafeStand as their preferred means of low level access to carry out the works.

The Library which is due to be complete at the beginning of 2015, is designed to provide flexible training rooms, community classrooms, 1 000 reader seats, space for 6 800 linear metres of shelving to accommodate core text books, 170 fixed PCs and a new café.

22/11/2012University College Birmingham (UCB) plans to build a brand new campus on four acres on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter.

Contractor Shepherd Construction was awarded a £17 million contract to deliver the first phase of the new campus development on behalf of University College Birmingham (UCB).

The development will replace a number of unoccupied buildings and a car park on Charlotte Street and Holland Street in Birmingham’s city centre, in a conservation area on the edge of the historic Jewellery Quarter. Designed over four floors, the new facility is set to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and will include a dedicated Postgraduate Centre, teaching spaces including three lecture theatres, a 24 hour study hub and a 200 seater café.

SafeStand® Access Equipment has been delivered to site this week to enable access to construct the internal blockwork walls.
