Newsletter 15 – SafeStand® Inside Toeboard Bracket

SafeStand® are proud to introduce the Inside Toeboard Bracket®.

With the fast paced and ever evolving construction industry, SafeStand® have been listening to our customer’s needs. We are happy to announce the launch of the SafeStand® Inside Toeboard Bracket which provides protection to the leading edge / working face.

An Inside Toeboard Bracket seamlessly integrates into the existing systems. This simple bracket allows users to run a Toeboard on the leading edge / working face along the SafeStand®/SureStand®.

The purpose is to allow the user to add additional protection where there is a gap on the working face, such as in a doorway or window openings, which eliminates items from being kicked off the platform.

Newsletter 14 – SafeStand® Triple Guardrail

Following a request from MACE (“Global experts in shaping the built environment – helping to lead the way to a more connected, resilient and sustainable world”) to investigate the possibility of adding a third guardrail at a height of 1500mm above the platform to SafeStand® Access Systems; we jumped at the opportunity to work with MACE to come up with a solution.

As a requirement of their SFSN (Safety First Second Nature) Standards for Mace Commercial Office and Residential, MACE are actively pushing ahead with a Minimum 1.5m high, triple handrail standard across all Work at Height Edge Protection.

Safestand have now completed a design, testing and on-site trials of an add on to our standard 5 Board wide systems that allows the installation of a third guardrail at 1500mm above platform whilst maintaining the SafeStand ethos of “Simplicity In Use”

We worked closely with a number of MACE personnel and with one of their supply chain partners, RI Works Ltd, to develop the Triple Guardrail solution.

“This all sounds really positive and I really like the positivity and drive towards developing this new innovation” – Matthew Lovett MCIOB, Construction Manager, MACE

Newsletter 01 – Load Testing

As part of ongoing safety initiatives; we have introduced 45° short struts to the lower frame of the 1200 system and diagonal braces when the 1200 system is used above 1800mm platform level, to provide increased stability to the systems. This resulted in the load bearing capacity of the SafeStand® Access System being retested by Lloyds British Testing Facilities at the end of June 2005.

“The Results Are Phenomenal”

In all a load of 5000kg (5 tonne) was applied to both the 1200 system (utilising the diagonal brace) and the 800 system at maximum extensions. This resulted in a load on each stand of 2500kg (2.5 tonne) which when factored by a safety factor of 2.5, as required by BS 1139, each stand has been given a SWL (safe working load) of 1000kg (1 tonne).

DID YOU KNOW?

  • SafeStand® Access Systems are available in three different starting heights; 500, 800 & 1200 systems.
  • Brickguards to suit our system are available for sale.

  • All new anti-flip brackets are now being manufactured to an increased width to allow working platforms to be erected on corners.

When a platform of more than one board length is required it is necessary to ensure that where the scaffold boards butt up to each other, two SafeStand® units are also butted up to each other. This leaves a gap of approx 600mm between each SafeStand® support. In this location two anti-flip brackets are used; one to support the short overhang (approx 300mm) of each flight of boards, see photos A & B.

Generally the SafeStands® are spaced at 1000 to 1200mm apart, however when boards butt up to each other the stands should only be approx. 600mm apart (Photo C & D).

(A)

(B)

WHEREVER THERE IS A JOINT IN THE BOARDED PLATFORM THE SAFESTANDS® MUST BUTT UP TO EACH OTHER AND TWO ANTI-FLIP BRACKETS; ONE TO EACH FLIGHT OF BOARDS, MUST BE USED TO SUPPORT THE ENDS OF THE SCAFFOLD BOARDS.

(C)

(D)

Some examples of incorrectly used/erected SafeStand® Anti-Flip Brackets are replicated below:

(E)

(F)

The boards are not spanned onto the SafeStand® unit and is therefore putting undue load on the anti-flip bracket (for which it is not designed). At every joint in the boarded platform two SafeStands® must butt up to each other and an anti-flip bracket must support each end of the scaffold boards (see photo B).

This product has all the design and technical advantages of SafeStand® combined with a strong but lightweight product.

SureStand® Access Systems are only available from SafeStand® Ltd.

The arrangement of gate and latch mechanism ensures that even when not “latched”, the gate does not open out from the work platform.

This new addition to SafeStand® Access Systems follows the same principles of previous developments whereby no tools are required for the installation of the gate and it is extremely quick and simple to install. On site trials have been carried out with the feedback from both the users and safety representatives being very positive. Once again SafeStand® have demonstrated an understanding and responsiveness to on site safety requirements and the continual development and enhancements of its systems proves that SafeStand® are the industry leaders in terms of the provision of low level access systems.

SafeStand® Access Systems provide a stable, safe, working platform with unsurpassed load bearing capacity, speed and simplicity of installation.

For any further information please contact SafeStand®.

The handrails are removable and also fold flat when not in use. The staircase support bracket simply slots over a rest bar which is inserted between two stands at the access point.

The SafeStand® Staircase comes in two sizes; 6 Tread and 9 Tread.

For any further information please contact SafeStand®.
