Introducing the New patented SafeStand® Extension Stand Project Highlight: Bespoke Solution for a Prestigious Mayfair Site A recent high-profile project in the heart of Mayfair required a cutting-edge work-at-height solution for complex ceiling installations above a suspended underground swimming pool. SafeStand Access Systems rose to the challenge —delivering the ideal answer with our new SafeStand Extension Stand.

Historically, achieving a platform height above 2210mm using our traditional systems was not feasible. However, this project provided the perfect opportunity to refine our new Extension Stand, designed to achieve greater platform working heights.

Key Features of the SafeStand Extension Stand

• Enhanced Height Capability: ➢ Platform height extended by an additional 1000mm to our standard Safestand 1200’s braced systems, enabling the

following configurations:

✓ 1870mm platform height extended to 2870mm

✓ 2040mm platform height extended to 3040mm

✓ 2210mm platform height extended to 3210mm

• Independently Tested to BS1139: Part 4 ➢ Fully compliant with the latest British Standards for safety and structural integrity.
• Safe Working Load (SWL): ➢ Certified SWL of 500kgs per individual stand, making it robust and dependable for various site applications.

Overcoming Unique Challenges on Site

The suspended swimming pool, located below ground level, presented unique logistical challenges and tight deadlines. SafeStand’s team conducted an initial site visit to evaluate requirements, discussed specifications in detail, and delivered a comprehensive plan. The extension stand system, consisting of a 100 linear meter, was successfully erected by two operatives within a remarkable timeframe of just 10 hours.

All three Safestand systems—Standard, 1200, and now the new Extension Stand, are being utilised across multiple levels of this prestigious project. The main contractor, their SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) team, and the specialist contractor have all provided very positive feedback, confirming SafeStand as the trusted partner for complex work-at-height solutions.

Product Launch: SafeStand® Decking

At SafeStand®, we continuously strive to develop innovative, low-level, heavy-duty access systems that improve safety and efficiency. We are excited to announce the launch of our patented Decking System, a new addition to our SafeStand® Access Systems.

The unique component, the new Decking Bridging Bar provides an economical solution while maintaining that class leading SWL of 1000kg throughout the system. It provides a seamless extension of the boarded platform, enabling users to bridge two aligned decking stands without altering the core structure.

Staircase Gate Bracket stands out:

Product Re-Launch: SafeStand® Triple Guardrail System

In 2021, association with both MACE Group Safety and Construction Departments, as well as the MACE supply chain, SafeStand® Ltd developed a variant to the standard double guardrail for SafeStand® Access Systems. Where required, installation of a third guardrail on the working platform can provide additional protection whilst working at height. Following the standard erection process detailed in the SafeStand® Training Guide, there are a few additional steps to allow for a third guardrail to be installed whilst on the platform.

In accordance with the SafeStand® Training Guide, once the double guardrails and toe boards have been installed, you are ready to fit the third guardrail system.

This is achieved by inserting the SafeStand Post Extender® (Diagram A) into the tops of both the fixed and removable front posts on the SafeStand® Uppers.

Once the SafeStand® Post Extenders have been fitted on either side of the platform, install the top guardrails (Diagram B), one bay at a time, into the locating lugs/receptors, working your way towards the access point.

After all top guardrails have been installed, fit the SafeStand® Access Gate Bracket by locating the bracket pin into the SafeStand Post Extender® (Diagram C). The SafeStand® Access Gate can then be installed. The gate incorporates a SafeStand® Post Extender and should be located into the fixed front post of the SafeStand® Upper (Diagram D).

Once the gate has been installed, remove the mid and lower guardrails by swinging them inwards. Before closing the gate, remove the two handrails completely.

Always carry out a “Before Use Check” after any alterations.

Prior to using the working platform, a final inspection must be completed to confirm the system has been erected correctly. This should be carried out in accordance with the Inspection Checksheet located at the rear of the Training Guide, Product Catalogue or the SafeStand App.
