SafeStand® Hits The Big Screen

13/05/2013 LIFEbuild have selected JMR Build to start construction at the Pinewood Studios Buckinghamshire site. The new building, named South Dock Stage Complex, includes a production area of similar size to the Richard Attenborough Stage which is already the second largest film production facility in Europe and also incorporates an office/workshop building. The works include blockwork for the new stage and SafeStand® Access Systems are being utilised for low level access by the bricklaying sub-contractor JMR Build Ltd. We at SafeStand® are very proud to be associated with Pinewood’s success.

Local contractor LIFE Build Solutions Ltd were selected to carry out the works, having previously worked at Pinewood Studios on construction of the main entrance gate, the Technicolor Building and the 30,000 sq ft Richard Attenborough Stage – Pinewood’s newest stage which, in its first year of operation, has housed the films Les Misérables and Jack Ryan and TV show The Love Machine.

SafeStand® at One St Peter’s Square

07/05/2013 Irvine Whitlock have once again chosen to use SafeStand® Access Systems on their latest construction project at Manchester city centres premier office scheme; One St Peter’s Square, . Construction commenced in May 2012 and is due to be completed by main contractor Carillion by March 2014 to coincide with completion of the Central Library and Town Hall redevelopment.

The building has been designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating and will incorporate office floorplates of up to 22,500 sq ft. Argent project director James Heather added: “While we are delighted to have a 63,000 sq ft pre-let to KPMG, we still have almost 210,000 sq ft of Grade A office space available.

Safestand Transforming Tottenham Court

19/04/2013 Crossrail are working alongside TfL on a £1bn transformation of Tottenham Court Road Station, the biggest transport investment in the West End for decades.

Pyramid Builders Limited have been awarded the brick and blockwork package and have chosen to use Safestand® Access Systems as their safe method for working at height.  With the expected rise in passenger numbers interchanging between London Underground services and Crossrail in 2018, the existing station is being upgraded to meet the expected rise in demand for this key central London station for years to come.

Alongside the upgrade of the existing tube station, Crossrail is building a new station the length of three football pitches four storeys underground.  A new street level ticket hall will be constructed at Dean Street, with the station box continuing five levels below ground at a depth of around 25m, providing access to the new Crossrail platforms.

Safestand® Back At London Zoo

17/01/2013 Buxton Building is back at London Zoo and Safestand Access Systems have once again been selected as the preferred method of access to carry out the works at the Zoo.

Buxton have begun work on the Regent Building, the works involve the construction of a new double storey extension, alterations to existing and a new mezzanine floor, this will create an exciting new restaurant. Once again Safestand Access Systems have been recognised as a cost effective and safe system to carry out works at height on the Regent Building.

This project follows previous successful projects at the Zoo including the Penguin Beach.

Swift Brickwork to Refurbish Police Station

06/12/2012 Swift Brickwork Ltd have recently been awarded works at Brixton Police Station, the project is part of a refurbishment programme of four Police Stations by Metropolitan Police, led by Wates.

The four police buildings (Brixton, Kingston, Walworth and Colindale) which are core to the estate, will enhance the operational capacity and enhance existing custody facilities of each building.

Safestand® Access Systems are pleased to provide access to a project which contributes towards a safer London.

Willmott Dixon Training 4Life Academy

27/11/2012 SafeStand® has been working with Willmott Dixon to help deliver a state of the art Training Academy called the Willmott Dixon Training 4Life Academy in Aston, Birmingham. SafeStand® was used to construct all the internal walls of this 14 000sq ft facility. SafeStand® has proved to be a safe and cost effective system whilst helping to reduce the overall timescale in construction of the blockwork walls.

The 4Life Training Academy will offer programmes ranging from short courses in Electrical Compliance and Renewable Technologies, to life-time skills courses such as NVQ and City & Guilds qualifications.

Students attending the 4Life Academy will be able to choose courses that include technical trade skills, Emerging Technologies, Health and Safety, supervisor skills and energy efficiency, as well as employability skills such as IT and CV writing. A series of community programmes and DIY sessions will also be run at the Centre.

SafeStand® Ltd are proud to have been part of the construction process, working with Willmott Dixon to provide such a worth while facility.

BAM Construction commences work on Phase Two at Aston University

30/01/2012BAM Construction is currently underway with work on Phase Two of the £215 million Aston University student accommodation scheme.  The high standard accommodation on campus is one of the biggest regeneration projects in the Midlands.

The Project incorporates the latest energy-effecient materials and systems and Safestand Access Systems has been used to carry works on both Phase one (constructed by Carillion) and now Phase two.  The work consists of replacing the existing high-rise blocks with two new blocks of accommodation, varying between 4 and 18 storeys high.  The accommodation will provide 1053 en-suite student bedrooms and shared facilities upon completion in 2013.
