SafeStand® Prepared for Direct Vision Standard
Transport for London (TFL) and the Mayor of London are looking at bringing into force “The Direct Vision Standard (DVS)” and safety permit for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). The DVS requires all lorries over 12 tonnes gross vehicle weight to be granted a permit to enter or operate in Greater London. The scheme was created to improve the safety of all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists with the aim is to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries on London’s transport network by 2041.
As of 26thOctober 2020 vehicles that fall within scope will be given a vehicle star rating under the DVS system and each vehicle must meet the minimum rating of at least one star unless exempt from the scheme. These star ratings can be obtained from the vehicle manufacturers.
STAR RATINGS
- Zero star rated vehicles will require an approved safe system and if acceptable will be granted a permit until 2024.
- One to Two star rated vehicles will be granted a permit until 2024.
- Three, four and five star rated vehicles will be granted a 10year permit
